Back in September I posted about this display of Philips LED lights at Home Depot. At the time, I wondered if this was just this store manager or a real retail push by Philips. I now have the answer — it’s real!

The photo in that post was from a Home Depot in Watertown MA. I have since seen similar displays at stores in Norwood and Waltham.

Clearly, Philips is staking out shelf space as the first-to-market. But are the products ready for prime time? Will this pioneer strategy give them first mover advantage or backfire if the products don’t meet consumer expectations? I expressed some doubts in my last post and have now bought a couple of the bulbs to try out. Stay tuned for the reviews!

I really want to hear your review. I bought a PAR38 version and so far have been pleased. It is not as bright as some CFLs but my wife prefer these for their light color and quality. We have them in the kitchen and the 3100K -ish color is nice; makes the CLFs look yellow-green in comparison.

yes, warm white color make people comfortable, and pure whitte more brighter. That is depends on the place will be used. Such as supermaket install pure wihte better than warm white.

I just saw a new bulb in the Home Depot ad. It is a Ecosmart LED A19 Dimmable Bulb for $19.97. There wasn’t any specs other than Made in USA. I went to look at it but no one could find it. I went to the Superbright site and they had one that looked like the picture in the HD ad. It was a Dimmable Globe LED Model E27-D A-19-W4, 6 watt bulb with 10x.5 watt LEDs. 290 lumen 6500 K for the cool white and 285 lumen 3300 k for the warm white. Price was $19.95. I ordered one to check it out.

I went to Home Depot and finally found them. It says made in China, assembled in USA. It says 40 watt equivalent, 8.6 watts, 429 lumens, and bright white. The color is 3032 which doesn’t look like bright white to me. I was disappointed in the output compared to the one from Superbright. It may be just the color but I found the one from Superbright to do a better job of lighting up the room. The HD one has plastic fins on the back and is taller. The Superbright has a metal vent area behind the bulb. I intend to return the ones from Home Depot and go with the other ones.

I just went to the Superbright and they have repriced the bulb to $29.95. My second choice is from LEDLight.com. It is 18 SMT (3 chip) standard light bulb. They say it is a 6 watt comparable to a 60 watt. I have a couple of them in high usage applications and they have held up well.

We are in the UK and are also seeing them on the high street shelves. LED Lights are set to be a new way of life. Best replacements at the moment at the GU10 LED Bulbs.
