Detailed Review

Maglite Replacement Bulb This replacement bulb is becoming very commonly available at all sorts of retailers wherever Maglites are sold.

Replacement is a snap: unscrew the top of the flashlight, remove the existing reflector and krypton bulb, plug in this assembly with the LED bulbs, screw the top back on. Done.

Here is a before and after picture comparing the light of the two different bulbs:

 Before and After

Because the krypton/incandescent bulb relies on a reflector to direct the light forward, there is a dark spot in the middle, where the bulb itself sits in the middle of the reflector. LEDs are unidirectional by nature and the 3 LEDs in this assembly focus the light in a bright, tight spot. Note there is a slightly bluish cast to this light, giving it a different quality than an incandescent.

Maglite comparison

I often use this light at night when I take my dogs out for their last walk. The LED bulb is a much better light source for me to pick my way through the dark corners of the yard to make sure they do their business (and I don’t step in it!)

In another post, I put the two to the test in battery life: tune in to see which wins!
